MICRO SEVEN, INC.® MODEL CS10 TELEPHONE CABLE SIMULATOR SIMULATES A TWISTED COPPER PAIR OF CABLE FOR DIGITAL AND ANALOG TELEPHONE LINES FOR TESTING DSL AND ANALOG TELEPHONY FOR ISDN AND DSL APPLICATION

INTRODUCTION

Micro Seven Model CS10, Telephone Cable Simulator, provides simulation of a twisted copper pair of cable for ADSL application where a single twisted copper pair cable is used for both analog telephone and DSL modems. The CS10 simulates cable resistance, capacitance, and inductance for maximum 7.5 (CS10) or 15 kilometers (CS10-1) of telephone lines depending on its configuration. It also provides test set up for cross-talk path from adjacent cable or earth ground to simulated telephone lines. The CS10 front panel contains four RJ11 connectors including digital input (ATU-C, ADSL transceiver unit, central office end), digital output (ATU-R, ADSL transceiver unit, remote terminal end), analog input (PSTN), and analog output (POTS). Splitters consisting of inductors and capacitors are included in CS10 for separating digital and analog lines. Programming of cable distance is accomplished by RS232C interface. Programmed parameters are stored in non-volatile memory inside CS10. Programmed cable parameters do not change even after power to CS10 is turned off. After CS10 programming is completed, CS10 may be carried in a case for field testing of telephone lines and/or telecommunication equipment. Connecting real telephone lines to CS10 for telephone cable simulation must be conducted with power cable and RS232C interface cable removed to avoid possible high voltage surge from telephone line onto equipment and operators. CS10 operates also with DC input power source by using an optional car battery adapter. Telephone line simulator with Micro Seven’s LS15-C1 or LS100/LS200 is connected to Analog Input RJ11 to provide analog central office function. Control software is provided with RS232C interface to PC. A carrying case, Car Battery Adapter, International AC/DC adapter, and CO simulator with LS15-C1 are available as options. CS10-2 provides 7.5km telephone cable simulation for 4-wire circuit.
